The Afador is a hybrid of the Afghan Hound and Labrador Retriever. You can clearly see from these Afador photos that this rare crossbreed is medium in size with beautiful, long, fine hair short and silky on the face. Afadors are patient, loving, and loyal, taking some of the best traits from their parent breeds.
This pooch is from the hound and sporting group, originally bred in Alaska in the early 2000s. Afadors are friendly, but they’re also protective and make great watchdogs. If you have young kids at home, this crossbreed will do well with them. In addition, they’ll be fine with other dogs or cats in the home. However, if you have small animals, they may want to chase them and “hunt” them down. So, early socialization and proper training are key. They also like to wander, so be sure you have a fenced-in yard, or you can easily watch them when they’re outside.
One parent breed is considered to be hypoallergenic, but the other parent breed is not. So, count on your Afador to shed. They’ll need weekly brushing to keep their coat looking clean and healthy. In addition, they have medium energy levels and only require about 45 minutes of exercise per day. However, they may be difficult to train. This doggo is independent and headstrong, so they may not feel the need to listen to you. They need a dog owner to stand their ground and use plenty of positive reinforcement and consistency.
