Agouti Husky – The Complete Guide

Huskies are an awesome dog breed. This pooch is great in more ways than one, but did you know they can come in different types and colors? An Agouti Husky is just a normal Husky that has a certain coloring and pattern on its coat.

So, let’s talk all about the Agouti Husky, how it got its coloring, and how to care for this awesome dog.

Appearance

Huskies can have two different coat types. One is standard, and the other is woolly. Both are dense and warm for the cold temperatures with a thick undercoat. However, woolly coats are longer than the standard coats, which can often confuse people into thinking that the dog is one type of Husky over another. Believe it or not, there are 12 different types of Huskies. They all, however, can come in various coat colors and patterns. This is Skyler…

Let’s talk about the Agouti Husky, which is a certain type of coat color and pattern. In a nutshell, this coloring makes it so that Huskies resemble wolves all the more.

Agouti Huskies have an undercoat typically dark-colored with an overcoat that features black, red, tan, and grey coloring. Their tips are usually black with black masks on their faces. So if you hear someone say a Husky has “wild coloring” or a “wolf sable,” then they most likely are talking about an Agouti Husky.

How does an Agouti Husky get its coloring?

Agouti is a gene that occurs in many animals, such as mice, horses, and, of course, dogs. This gene is responsible for causing the black or dark coloring by the amount and distribution of melanin. When it comes to dogs, this gene can be represented in a way that causes a dog to have fawn or sable coloring. Meet Lex…

Each hair has black or tan coloring, making the Agouti Husky look darker in color. It isn’t easy to pinpoint what coloring their fur is. Thus it’s called the Agouti Husky. Sometimes they’ll have white markings, but they’re typically dark.

Temperament

This Husky is similar to any other Husky dog. Despite the different coloring, this doesn’t affect their temperament or personality at all. This pooch is generally affectionate and friendly. They’re social butterflies and outgoing. However, this doggo is vocal and loves to talk. So, if you’re looking for a peaceful, quiet pup, a Husky may not be the answer.

Caring for your Agouti Husky

With proper care and regular veterinarian visits, your Agouti Husky has an average lifespan of 12 to 14 years.

Grooming

Your Agouti Husky will shed a lot. So, it’s important to brush their coat multiple times per week to keep the shedding at bay. If they’re blowing their coat or it’s shedding season, then brushing frequently every day will be ideal.

Diet

This doggo will need high-quality kibble that’s high in protein due to its high energy levels. This pup is active and needs food to fuel its energy. Of course, talk to your vet about the best meal plan for your dog’s diet since all dogs are different.

Exercise

Huskies have high energy levels. They need a lot of physical and mental stimulation, or else they will get destructive. They’ll do well with an active family and will enjoy going on runs, hikes, and adventures with you. In addition, this pup won’t do well in apartments due to their vocal barking and need to run around and get out their energy. A large, fenced-in yard (or frequent trips to the dog park) will do them well. This is Mishka…

Health problems

Like all dogs, Agouti Huskies will have some health issues. However, regular trips to the vet can help you prevent some of these health concerns or catch them early enough to treat them. Some of these health conditions to keep an eye out for might be:

Where to buy an Agouti Husky

While you shouldn’t buy a Husky solely based on their color alone, you can talk to reputable breeders about it. Some breeders who work with sled dogs may have this pooch available. Be sure to do your research about the breeder, though, before buying. You want to make sure the dogs are well cared for, bred in good conditions, and are healthy.

Agouti Huskies are extremely rare, though, so don’t get your hopes up too high in case you can’t find a pup with this coloring.

Unfortunately, due to their high energy levels, Huskies are often surrendered to rescues and shelters, so you might be able to find one here.

How much does an Agouti Husky cost?

If you do happen to find an Agouti Husky, you can expect to spend about $1,000. You may find one for a lower price through rescues and shelters, though.

Should you get an Agouti Husky?

Aside from the coloring, an Agouti Husky is no different than any other Husky type. However, this pooch is rare, so if you can find one and you can handle the energy levels of this doggo, then you can certainly bring home an Agouti Husky. They’ll make a great addition to any home.
