Alaskan Malamute Photos

If you want to look at some Alaskan Malamute photos to decide if this is the breed for you and get a feel for them, you’ve come to the right place.
Believed to be the descendant of wolf-dogs, Alaskan Malamutes very much still look wolfish in nature. They’re fairly large dogs with thick fur, and you can tell they were bred for Arctic conditions. People also bred them for strength and endurance, so if you take on one of these powerful creatures, be prepared for them to be a physical handful. These dogs have a double coat and heavy muscle, making them truly beautiful to look at.
Purebred Alaskan Malamutes do not have blue eyes.
They tend to be slower but stronger than other dogs, built for endurance rather than speed. This breed loves their people and are very dedicated companions, which can make them excellent therapy dogs! They do, however, tend to have a prey drive. This means you’ll have to be careful around small animals and train them carefully, because they can find themselves attracted to chasing and hunting them.
If you’re planning on getting an Alaskan Malamute, take introductions to smaller animals slowly, such as cats. This way, you can be sure the two of them will get along. Even if they do, you should never leave them unsupervised.
