The American Leopard Hound is a distinctive and beautiful breed of dog. Many times, its coat resembles that of a leopard, which makes the name very apt. However, this dog can come in a variety of colors, and most of them actually have solid-colored coats! Don’t believe every American Leopard Hound resembles its namesake.
It’s a medium to large dog, so if you’re looking for a small dog, you’ll want to move away from this. However, if you want a slightly larger hound that isn’t a giant, this dog could be perfect.
A Hardy Dog
They’re a tough breed with incredible tracking abilities, and they can follow prey for miles. This means you’ll have to be careful and work on training their recall early, because it’ll be important later.
For the most part though, they are very dedicated to their family. The fact these dogs are so loyal means they can be a little wary of strangers and very protective of any children in the family. You can counter this by socializing them as much as possible at a young age. They should be taught that strangers, for the most part, mean good things for them!
