American Leopard Hound Puppies

The American Leopard Hound is a purebred dog breed. This doggo also goes by a few other nicknames, such as the American Leopard, American Leopard Cur, and the Leopard Cur. Initially bred in Mexico, it’s unknown when this breed was developed. However, they were used for hunting. Today, this dog breed is sociable, energetic, and intelligent. If you want to learn more about American Leopard Hound puppies, then keep reading.

Where to get American Leopard Hound Puppies

Before searching for breeders, make sure you call your local animal shelter or breed rescue organization. You’ll be able to find American Leopard Hound puppies, adults, or seniors looking for a good home. It’s always a good idea to adopt and not shop.

However, if you have your heart set on getting a puppy and knowing where the dog came from, then you can go through a reputable breeder. You can find an ethical breeder through the AKC Marketplace but still need to research. For example, you’ll be able to tell a good breeder from the rest because they will do the following:

  • Ensure the puppies are up to date with all of their vaccinations
  • Socialize and train the puppies as early as possible
  • Allow the dogs to live in their home as part of the family, kennel-free
  • Want to meet with you in person and allow you to meet the parents and the litter
  • Be open and honest and able to answer any questions you have

In addition, a good breeder will also health screen and genetically test the dogs before breeding to ensure it’s safe and healthy. Then, they’ll get the puppies tested. Abbeyonthefarm…

If you find a breeder that doesn’t do the above, then you’ll want to avoid them. For example, they might be a backyard breeder or a puppy mill, and they don’t breed the dogs in healthy or safe conditions. Also, they’re more interested in making a profit rather than finding the puppies good homes.

The Cost

The average cost of this dog breed is between $800 and $1,000. However, the price may differ depending on the breeder’s location, the breed’s popularity, or the time of year.

Appearance

American Leopard Hounds are medium to large-sized dogs. For example, they can grow about 21 to 27 inches tall and weigh between 45 and 70 pounds.

  • Gray
  • Red
  • Yellow

Temperament

If you’re looking for a family companion dog, then this pup might be for you. They might not be the most cuddly of dogs, but American Leopard Hounds are loyal and affectionate with their family members. Also, they’re excellent around young children. They’re great meeting other dogs and new people, as well.

This dog breed is an average watchdog, and they will bark to alert you of something. They’ll sometimes bark when excited, but they’re relatively quiet. As with all dog breeds, this one needs early socialization and training. However, they’re not always easy to train. So, you might need to hire a professional dog trainer to help you out.

Finally, they have high energy levels. As a result, they’ll enjoy long walks and living in a bigger house with a fenced-in yard rather than an apartment.

American Leopard Hound Puppies – Veterinary Needs

Luckily, American Leopard Hound puppies are relatively healthy. So the only health issue you might have to worry about is deafness.

So, you’ll want to bring them to the vet at least once a year for their annual checkup. You can get them to the vet more often for their first year to keep track of their growth and development. Also, you can keep them up to date with their vaccinations.

This doggo has an average lifespan of about 12 to 15 years with proper care. Mosha46…

Diet

With your vet’s approval, you’ll be able to feed this doggo any high-quality kibble or canned wet food from a commercial dog food brand or homemade dog food. First, however, make sure that it’s appropriate for your dog’s breed size, weight, and age.

Grooming

When it comes to grooming, this doggo is low-maintenance. So, you won’t need to worry about taking them to a professional grooming salon often. However, you can bring them once in a while to get a good cleaning. Otherwise, you can bathe them as needed at home.

In addition, the American Leopard Hound sheds moderately. So, you’ll want to brush their coat at least once a week to keep the loose hairs under control. Finally, be sure to keep up with brushing their teeth, cleaning their ears, and trimming their nails regularly.
