If you want to look through some Australian terrier photos to get a picture of the breed, we’ve got you covered.
Because of their coloring and slightly long coat, Australian terriers are often mistaken for Yorkies. However, they’re a different breed entirely.
They come in a huge variety of colors, but are often blue and tan (or black and tan). Their coat is not soft, but wiry, and they stand between nine and eleven inches at the shoulder. They’re great for those who are looking for a small dog, and many people haven’t even heard of Australian terriers!
They’re very self-confident little dogs, so if you socialize and train them well from an early age, they can become great companions. They’ll be happy to accompany you anywhere, and get along with anyone they meet! They’re very curious, which may need to be reigned in at times though. They’re highly intelligent, so training should be pretty easy — although due to their small size, you should be patient with potty training. They simply can’t hold their bladders as long as a larger dog!
As is typical of any terrier, be wary of their prey drive. They love to chase small animals, so it’s vital to work on a good recall. A reliable “leave it” verbal cue will also help with this. You should be aware that this can take a long time to become reliable, and stay patient when training.
