The Basset Fauve de Bretagne is an unusual breed of dog that you may not have heard of. As you might be able to tell by the name, they originated from the French. They’re a small scent hound and people originally bred them to find rabbits. They have a small, wiry coat but despite the texture, they do shed quite a bit. This means they may not be the best choice for allergies. They only come in red and fawn varieties.
They’re cheerful and good-natured little dogs who will love their families. They get along well with other dogs and small children, so they can make a great companion that’s good for everyone. They can also get along with cats, though introductions should be done slowly. This is true of any animal though!
You may need to be a little more careful with smaller animals.
Training
Training and socialization are necessary as otherwise, their curious natures can get them into trouble. Make sure you really take the time as a puppy to introduce them to new experiences and teach them how to be alone at the same time. Looking out for their needs as a puppy will make for a well-adjusted adult dog.
Remember to advocate for your dog too, and never put them in situations that might make them uncomfortable. Socializing does not mean forcing them to do things.
