beauceron puppies

The Beauceron is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the herding group. Also known as the Berger de Beauce or the Bas-Rouge, this doggo comes from France, dating back to the 1500s. Initially bred for herding, this dog breed is a great family companion dog today. For instance, they’re faithful, gentle, and obedient. If you want to learn more about Beauceron puppies, then keep reading.

Where to get Beauceron Puppies

If you want to get this puppy, you should adopt it and not shop to help it. So, you can call your local animal shelter or breed rescue organization and see if they have Beauceron puppies, adults, seniors, or mixed breeds available for adoption. You can save a dog’s life since most of these pups were abandoned or surrendered by their previous owners or found as strays.

Alternatively, if you truly want a puppy and know where the dogs came from, you can go through a reputable breeder. This dog breed is purebred, so the American Kennel Club recognizes it. So, you can find an ethical breeder registered on the AKC Marketplace. Chanallow…

You’ll be able to tell a good breeder from the rest because they’ll do the following:

  • Socialize and train the puppies as early as possible
  • Ensure the puppies are up to date on all of their vaccinations
  • Want to meet with you in person, allowing you to meet the parents and the litter
  • Have the dogs living in their house as part of the family, kennel-free
  • Be open and honest with you, able to answer all of your questions about the breeder, the breed, the adoption process, the breeding process, or the parents or litter

In addition, a good breeder will also health screen and genetically test the parents before breeding to ensure it’s safe and healthy for them. Then, they’ll get the puppies tested. Also, they’ll have health documents and family tree history available for you to bring home upon adoption.

If you find a breeder that doesn’t do the above, then you’ll want to avoid working with them. They’re probably a backyard breeder or a puppy mill, and they don’t breed the dogs under safe or healthy conditions. Also, they’re more interested in making a profit rather than finding good homes for the puppies.

The Cost

The average cost of Beauceron puppies is between $1,200 and $1,500. However, the price can differ depending on the breeder’s location, the breed’s popularity, or the time of year.

Appearance

Beauceron puppies will grow to be large dogs, with males being slightly taller than females. For example, males can grow to be about 25.5 to 27.5 inches tall, and females can grow about 24 to 26.5 inches tall. Regardless of gender, this doggo should weigh between 70 and 110 pounds.

In addition, they have a short and smooth double coat that can come in a couple of different coat colors, such as:

  • Black & Rust
  • Black & Tan
  • Harlequin
  • Gray Black & Tan

Temperament

Beaucerons are great family companion dogs. For example, they’re loyal and affectionate with their family members. Also, they’re good around young children, other dogs, and meeting new people. However, they need plenty of early socialization and training. They are first and foremost a watchdog and will be wary around strangers and other dogs at first.

However, they can be tricky to train, so you can hire a professional dog trainer to help you out. Also, they have high energy levels, so that they won’t do well in an apartment. So you’ll want to provide them with a bigger house and a fenced-in yard.

Beauceron Puppies – Veterinary Needs

Beauceron puppies are relatively healthy. However, they are prone to allergies, gastric torsion (bloat), or hip dysplasia.

This is why you should bring them to the vet at least once a year for their annual checkup. However, you can bring them more often to keep track of their growth and development during their first year. Also, you can keep them up to date with their shots and boosters.

This dog breed has an average lifespan of about ten to 12 years with proper care.

Diet

With your vet’s approval, you can feed this doggo any food that’s appropriate for their breed size, age, and weight. For example, you can provide them with high-quality kibble or canned wet food from a commercial dog food brand or homemade dog food.

Grooming

When it comes to grooming, this dog breed is high maintenance. You’ll want to bring them to a professional grooming salon at least once a month for a good cleaning. However, you’ll need to keep up with other grooming at home at least once a week or every other week.

Also, the Beauceron dog sheds a lot. So, you’ll want to brush their coat at least three to four times a week to keep the shedding under control.

In addition, be sure to keep up with trimming their nails, brushing their teeth, and cleaning their ears regularly.
