The Blue Lacy originated in Texas, so it’s a born and bred American dog. It is, however, not yet recognized as a breed by the AKC. It was originally bred to hunt wild boar, so you can imagine that it’s a pretty strong breed. Despite that, it only stands at around 21″ tall. It can also come in a variety of colors despite the name, including red and tri-color.
Because of its intelligence and desire to have a job to do, this dog is highly trainable. You can teach it to do a whole manner of things. As long as you start the training and socialization early, it’s easy to shape this dog’s habits into good ones.
An Active Dog
It is, however, very high energy, so it may not be suitable for inexperienced owners or apartment living. A fenced-in backyard or a lot of land to run around on is ideal.
This breed also has the tendency to be confrontational and territorial with other dogs. If you’re introducing a Blue Lacy to your pet, you should take the introductions slowly. Have them meet in a neutral location first so you can see if your Blue Lacy is okay with your other dog on neutral ground before taking them back to your home. A territorial dog is more likely to get aggressive on their own turf.
