Intelligent, calm, and confident – that’s the Boerboel dog breed. These are working dogs who were bred to be a protector on farms. If lions or other predators came too close, the Boerboel would chase them away. They look tough, similar to the Mastiff, but they can be softies and are cute to boot. Take a look at these Boerboel photos to see for yourself.
The Boerboel dog will make a great family dog. They are super affectionate and loyal to their family members. In addition, they’re great with kids. However, they may prefer to be the other dog in the house. As a result, they don’t get along too well with other dogs. But this is where early socialization and training will come in handy.
Luckily, they’re fairly easy to train. Since they were bred to be protectors, that’s exactly what they’ll do. Unfortunately, Boerboels are territorial, so they’ll protect you and the house. This is partly why this dog breed should not be trained as a guard dog or become aggressive. They make excellent watchdogs, though.
This pooch will also need a moderate amount of daily exercise and mental stimulation. As scent hounds, they’ll enjoy scent games. They’ll also enjoy running around a fenced-in yard with you or going for long walks. However, going to the dog park might be out of the question since they’re so protective. Overall, this breed will make a great family dog.
