Even though the Bracco Italiano is a very old dog breed, you still may not have heard of it, or know much about it. Luckily, we’ve compiled a gallery of Bracco Italiano photos to help you learn more!

Bracco Italiano translates in English to Italian Pointer. Records of these pointers date from the 4th and 5th century BCE. This might make them the oldest European pointer dog breed. Like its other pointer cousins, the Bracco Italiano mainly helped in small game and bird hunting. They still fulfill this role today with avid sportsmen. Despite their long history in Europe, they only made it to the United States in the 1990s.

A Big Dog

The Bracco Italiano has short, smooth hair. The breed comes in two different color variations, usually white with small spots all over. These spots can be either orange or chestnut brown. A gentle brush down with a grooming glove should help cut down on dead hair and leave them looking great. This breed generally sheds less than others, making them a great option for those allergic to dogs. Since this breed has floppy ears, make sure to check them frequently for wax buildup, debris, and signs of infection.

While they have an independent streak, your Bracco Italiano will love to make you happy. In training, they will ultimately want to please you, their owner. Even if you’re not much of a hunter, they will still enjoy structured activities like agility and rally. These can help them burn off their high physical energy.

The Bracco Italiano makes a great family dog, since they’re great with young children. They also get along well with other dogs. However, they do have the tendency to be a bit more reserved around strangers.

To truly understand this breed you can look at some of these photos of the dog from a puppy right through to a senior dog.
