The Afador is a mixed breed between the Afghan Hound and Labrador Retriever. In fact, they’re sometimes also known as Afghan Labs. They’re medium to large-sized dogs who can grow to be about 20 to 29 inches tall and weigh between 50 and 75 pounds. Also, they commonly have coat colors in black, brown, gray, red, or fawn. In addition, they have an average lifespan of about ten to 12 years.
This dog breed originated in Alaska. However, it’s not widely known why this crossbreed was initially bred. Afghan Hounds are one of the oldest dog breeds, and Labrador Retrievers are excellent family dogs and working dogs. So, mixing the two allows for a great family dog that works hard and is hardy.
The Afador Is A Loyal Dog
Afadors inherited some of the best traits from both of their parent breeds. For example, they’re known for being loyal, energetic, and affectionate. Overall, this hybrid makes a great family companion dog. However, they’ll do well with families that have older children, and that can give them proper training and socialization. For example, this dog breed is highly intelligent, but they can be stubborn and difficult to train. The Afador will be a great guard dog for your house and your family. Also, they need plenty of outdoor space to run around and get out their energy.
When caring for this mixed breed, you’ll want to occasionally bring them to the vet since they’re known to inherit a few health issues from their parents. Also, grooming will be ideal since they do shed a lot. Going to a professional grooming salon will be great, but brushing their coat two to three times a week is a good idea as well. Not only will you keep your dog clean, but it will also be a good bonding moment for the two of you.
