If you’ve never heard of the Akita Shepherd before, then you’re in luck. This hybrid dog is a mixed breed of the Akita and the German Shepherd. This particular breed comes from a long line of working dogs. It’s unknown when this designer dog came to be, but it’s known to have originated from North America.
Akita Shepherds are large dogs, with males being bigger and heavier than females. For instance, males can stand to be about 26 to 28 inches tall and weigh between 75 and 120 pounds. On the other hand, females can grow to be about 24 to 26 inches tall and weigh between 75 and 110 pounds. Their coat can also come in a few different coat colors: brown, grey, red, black, white, brindle, or silver.
Akita Shepherd – A Loya Dog
This mixed breed is known for being loyal, hard-working, and courageous. Since these dogs are bred for work, they train well and are responsive. They’re always eager to learn new things and please their owners. Akita Shepherds will build an awesome bond with their humans. In addition, they’ll be an excellent family companion because they’re great with young children and other dogs. They need proper training and early socialization, though, especially for strangers. Akita Shepherds are great watchdogs and guard dogs. While they’ll never be aggressive (unless they’re trained to be), they’ll be wary of meeting new people. Also, Akita Shepherds need a lot of exercise every day. Due to their energy levels and size, living in a bigger house with a fenced-in yard is ideal for them.
This dog breed has an average lifespan of about ten to 13 years when it comes to caring. However, they’re known to get some health issues due to inheriting them from their parent breeds. So, be sure to bring them to the vet at least once a year for an annual checkup. Feed them a nutritious diet rich in protein for their energy levels, and keep them well-groomed.
