The American Hairless Terrier is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the terrier group. This dog breed is only of the few hairless dogs that originated in the United States. They were initially bred as ratters, clearing the pests away from houses and farms. Today, they are known to be alert, energetic, and curious. They’re small dogs, growing to be about 12 to 16 inches tall and weighing about 12 to 16 pounds.

What’s great about this particular dog breed is that they’re hairless, which means they don’t have fur or hair. So, if this dog is a great choice if you have allergies. However, even though they don’t have a coat, they can still have different skin colors, such as apricot, black, blue, chocolate, lemon, red, and more.

American Hairless Terrier – A Low Maintenance Dog

When it comes to caring for this dog breed, they are low maintenance. For example, grooming is minimal. You don’t need to worry about shedding or brushing their coat. However, you will want to ensure that they don’t get skin infections. For example, they’re prone to sunburns, and you’ll still want to give them the occasional bath to keep them clean. Also, they have moderate energy levels. Due to their small size won’t require too much exercise every day. However, a daily walk will be enough to keep them healthy and fit. They’ll do well in a bigger house with a fenced-in yard or an apartment. They have an average lifespan of about 14 to 16 years with proper care.

Overall, the American Hairless Terrier is loyal and affectionate with their family members, and they’re also excellent with young children. They’re okay around strangers and other dogs, but they need early training and socialization. Luckily, this dog breed is easy to train since they love learning new things and being around their humans.
