The Aussiepom is a relatively new mixed breed—a cross between the Australian Shepherd and the Pomeranian. The Aussies bred are usually miniature or toy Aussies, creating a small dog. As they’re relatively new, not much else about their appearance can be guaranteed. They may take on the color and physical traits of either parent, though it should be noted that they’re not great dogs for those who suffer with allergies. This is simply because the Australian Shepherd and Pomeranian both have fluffy coats who shed a lot.
Therefore, be prepared to keep up with their grooming needs!
You’ll likely have an intelligent dog with medium energy levels. Although the Aussie is an infamously high-energy dog, Poms are slightly less so. This is good news, as it tones down the hyperactivity of the Aussie. Still, they’ll need a decent walk at least once a day, though it may be easier for them to adapt to an apartment than a full Australian Shepherd.
You should, however, have patience with potty-training. These dogs are small, which means they might have some trouble holding their bladder until they’re around six months old. Don’t lose your temper. Ignore accidents, and praise and treat them whenever they go outside. They’ll get there.
The Aussiepom – Watch For Their Barking
It’s unlikely you’ll have an issue with them getting along with kids or other animals in the house. Still, take introductions slowly and make sure you socialize them well. By giving them lots of positive experiences and interactions, you’ll create a well-rounded dog.
They do tend to have slight watchdog habits, so look out for that incessant vocalization! This could get annoying for neighbors. Thankfully, it’s not too serious of an issue, as they’re all bark and no bite for the most part. The Aussiepom is a truly special dog that is an ideal pet.
