The Beauceron is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the herding group. However, this dog breed was initially bred to perform many jobs. For example, they used to be soldiers, bodyguards, rescuers, companions, competitors, pranksters, and livestock herders. However, this dog breed also goes by the Berger de Beauce or the Bas Rogue. Also, another tidbit about this dog breed is that the Beauceron is the short-haired one. There is a long-haired version of this breed, known as the Briard. Overall, the Beauceron is faithful, gentle, and obedient.
Beaucerons are large dogs, with males being slightly bigger than females. For example, males can grow to be 25.5 to 27.5 inches tall, and females can grow about 24 to 26.5 inches tall. Regardless of their gender, they both should weigh the same. For instance, this dog breed can weigh between 70 and 110 pounds. Also, they can be found in a few different coat colors, such as black & rust, black & tan, harlequin, or gray-black & tan.
This dog breed has an average lifespan of about ten to 12 years with proper care. For instance, be sure to bring them to the vet annually for a checkup since they’re prone to some health issues. Also, bring them to a professional grooming salon at least once a month or once every other month. They can provide a bath for your furry friend and trim their coat as needed. Also, the Beauceron does shed a considerable amount, so you’ll want to brush their coat at least once a day to keep the shedding under control.
Beauceron – A Loyal Dog
Overall, the Beauceron does make a good family companion dog. However, they aren’t the most cuddly of pets. Although, they’ll be loyal and affectionate with their family members. Also, they’re good around young children and other dogs. However, when it comes to strangers, they’ll be wary at first. Luckily, early training and early socialization can nip that in the bud.
