Wondering what exactly a Borador is? It’s a cross between the Border Collie and the Labrador Retriever!
These dogs have reached designer status in recent years, which means you should be careful when getting one. Backyard breeders and puppy mills will use designer breeds to lure people in and sell puppies for cheap prices. These puppies are, unfortunately, not always socialized and often have underlying health issues. It’s important not to support these breeders, as it produces more unhappy puppies. That, and you’re often stuck with huge vet bills down the line.
Boradors, however, can often be found in shelters, and are truly great dogs! The Border Collie and Labrador Retriever both have high energy levels, which means you can expect your dog to have the same. Prepare to provide them with lots of exercise and mental stimulation to meet their needs. A bored dog is a destructive dog, so the last thing you want is your dog chewing on your furniture because you weren’t giving them enough to do.
The Borador – A Smart Dog
They’re also highly, highly intelligent. You’ll be very impressed when training your dog. They can live with other dogs and cats if socialized as puppies, and will bond well to their families. The Labrador is very friendly with strangers and the Collie tends to be a little more reserved, so it’s hard to say exactly how your puppy will be.
In terms of appearance, you’ll be looking at a medium-sized dog that may lean towards large. They could have short or slightly longer coats and come in any color, from black, to brown, to tri-color. One thing you can be sure of is that your Borador is likely to shed a lot, so be aware if you have allergies that they may not be the best fit!
