The Braque Francais Pyrenean is a friendly and smart purebred dog breed that’s always willing to please its owners. This breed is ancient, originating from France. In fact, there are two types of Braque Francais breeds: the Pyrenean and the Gascony. The Pyrenean is the smaller of the two. The Braque Francais Pyrenean is also the more popular since they’re excellent retrievers and love water. In addition, they go by a few other names, such as the French Pointer or the Braque Francais De Petite Taille.
Overall, this breed is medium-sized. For instance, they can grow about 18.5 to 23 inches tall and weigh between 40 and 55 pounds. Also, their short and smooth coat can come in a couple of different coat colors. For example, they can be chestnut or chestnut & white. Markings might include ticked, roan, or tan points.
Even though they have a shorter coat, they’ll still require some grooming. For example, the breed sheds a moderate amount and will need weekly brushing. Otherwise, you’ll only need to bathe them as required. You can bring them to the professional grooming salon once in a while, but it’s not typically necessary.
Braque Francais Pyrenean – A High Energy Dog
However, this dog breed has high energy levels. To keep them healthy and fit, you’ll want to provide your Braque Francais Pyrenean with at least 90 minutes of physical activity each day. This activity could be long walks, runs, hikes, swimming, or trips to the dog park. However, they need plenty of early socialization and training to get along well with strangers. They do love other dogs and young children, though.
In addition, be sure to bring this doggo to the vet at least once a year for an annual checkup since they’re prone to specific health issues. Also, you can keep them up to date with their vaccinations. Overall, you can expect this dog breed to have an average lifespan of about 12 to 15 years.
