If you’re looking for a hypoallergenic, small dog to bring home, then you can certainly consider the Cavapoo. This dog breed is a mixed breed of the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and the Poodle. Also known as a Cavadoodle or Cavoodle, this crossbreed is obedient, gentle, and sensitive. While it’s unknown where and when this hybrid came to be, Cavapoos were initially bred to companion dogs and their agility skills. But, overall, they inherited the best traits from both parent breeds.
While this breed can inherit its looks from either parent, they’re typically small to medium-sized dogs. For instance, Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are small, but Poodles come in three sizes. So, the Cavapoo could have a Toy Poodle or a Miniature Poodle as a parent. With that said, males are usually bigger and heavier than females. For instance, males can grow to be about 11 to 14 inches tall and weigh between ten and 20 pounds. On the other hand, females can grow to be about nine to 11 inches tall and weigh between eight and 17 pounds.
Cavapoo – A Great Family Dog
The Cavapoo has an average lifespan of about 12 to 15 years with proper care. For instance, you’ll want to bring them to the vet at least once a year for an annual checkup. They can inherit different health issues from either parent breed. Also, the Cavapoo is high maintenance when it comes to grooming. You’ll need to bring them to the salon at least once a month for a good cleaning. Luckily, they’re considered hypoallergenic, so you don’t need to worry about shedding. But you’ll still want to brush their coat once a week to keep it looking nice.
Overall, Cavapoos are loyal and affectionate with their family members. Also, they’re great with young children, other dogs, and meeting new people. They’ll be an excellent family companion dog who can live in an apartment or a bigger house with a fenced-in yard.
