The Chiweenie is a mixed breed of the Chihuahua and the Dachshund. Since this hybrid is small, its parent is most likely the Miniature Dachshund, but the Chiweenie can vary in size. This dog breed also goes by the Mexican Hot Dog, Chihiweenie, Chawinnie, Doxiwawa, Dachuahua, or the Chiwee. Initially bred in the 1990s, this doggo was meant to be a family companion dog.
There’s a lot to love about this small dog breed, especially if you live in an apartment. However, this dog breed will do well in a bigger house with a fenced-in yard. For instance, males are slightly bigger and heavier than females. For example, males can grow to be about seven to ten inches tall and weigh between 12 and 25 pounds. On the other hand, females can grow to be about six to nine inches tall and weigh between eight and 18 pounds. The Chiweenie can inherit any look from either parent breed when it comes to their coat type and coloring.

In addition, they can inherit a few health issues from their parents. So, you’ll want to bring them to the vet at least once a year for their annual checkup. Luckily, the Chiweenie has an average lifespan of about 12 to 16 years with proper care. It’ll depend on whether your Chiweenie has a short coat or a long coat when it comes to grooming. Short coats don’t require much, but long coats need to go to the grooming salon for a bath and clipping once in a while. Also, be sure to give them about 45 minutes of physical activity every day. They don’t need much due to their size, but they still need to stay fit.
