If you’ve never heard of the Chug before, then you’re in luck. This doggo is a mixed breed of the Chihuahua and the Pug, also known as the Chihuahua-Pug, Pughuahua, or Chugg. This crossbreed was introduced in the early 2000s as a family companion dog. Chugs are independent and stubborn, but they’re also friendly, playful, and loving. There’s a lot to love about this lapdog.

The Chug is a small dog breed, growing to be about six to 14 inches. In addition, they weigh about ten to 20 pounds. The Chug can take after either parent breed when it comes to their looks. However, they can have a few different coat colors: brown, black, white, cream, or brindle. This mixed breed has an average lifespan of about ten to 15 years with proper care.

The Chug – A Great Family Dog

When it comes to grooming care, they need moderate maintenance. For example, the Chug will need weekly brushing to keep any shedding under control and keep tangles away. In addition, they’ll only need to go to the grooming salon for an as-needed bath or a quick clipping if they have a long coat. Also, these dogs are relatively laid-back and have moderate energy levels. So, they don’t need too much physical activity, but about 45 minutes per day of playtime and walks will be ideal for keeping them happy, healthy, and fit. Luckily, Chugs can do well in an apartment or a bigger house with a fenced-in yard.

Overall, this mixed breed is a delight to have as part of the family. They might be tricky to train since they can be stubborn, but they’ll learn quickly if you show them who’s in charge and start training and socializing early. Otherwise, they’re loyal and affectionate with their family members. Also, they’re good with young children, other dogs, and meeting new people.
