The Cockapoo is a mixed breed of the Cocker Spaniel and the Poodle. Also known as the Cockapoodle or Cock-A-Poo, this designer dog was initially bred to be a family companion. Also, it was for their agility skills. Cockapoos originated in the 1960s coming from the United States. There’s a lot to love about this dog breed, especially since it can come in a few different sizes. However, the smaller the pup is, the more popular the breed is.
For instance, the Cockapoo is a small dog breed with slightly bigger males than females. For example, males can grow to be about 12 to 14 inches tall and weigh between 13 and 18 pounds. On the other hand, females can grow to be about 11 to 13 inches tall and weigh between 13 and 16 pounds. The size could vary, depending on whether the Poodle parent is a Miniature Poodle or a Standard Poodle. When it comes to their appearance, the Cockapoo can take after either parent breed.
Cockapoo – A Great Family Dog
They can have an average lifespan of about 12 to 15 years with proper care. Care includes grooming once in a while. This dog might not shed much, thanks to its Poodle roots, but they’ll still need brushing once a week to keep their coat looking clean and free of tangles. Also, you’ll want to bring them to a professional grooming salon once in a while for a bath. On the other hand, you’ll want to provide at least an hour a day of physical activity for the Cockapoo. They have moderate energy levels but will need a daily walk and some time to run around and explore a fenced-in yard. However, they’ll also do well in an apartment.
Finally, you can bring your Cockapoo to the vet annually for a checkup since it can inherit some health issues from its parents. But, overall, the Cockapoo is friendly, loyal, and affectionate with its family members. They’re great with young children and other dogs as well.
