The Dandie Dinmont Terrier is a purebred dog breed, part of the terrier group. Initially bred at the border of Scotland and England in the 1700s, this dog breed is a hunter of otters and hunters. Today, they’re independent, smart, and proud, good family companion dogs. In addition, this breed goes by many other names. For example, this doggo is also called the Charlie’s Hope Terrier, Mustard and Pepper Terrier, The Dandie, Otter Terrier, and the Hindlee Terrier.

Dandie Dinmont Terriers are small to medium-sized dogs. For instance, they can grow to be about eight to 11 inches tall but weigh between 18 and 24 pounds. In addition, they have a medium double coat that requires monthly grooming. You can bring them to a professional grooming salon to get clipped and give them a bath. Also, they shed a little bit so you can brush their coat weekly to keep it looking nice.

When it comes to exercise, this dog breed has moderate energy levels. However, they’re hunters, so they’ll need about 60 minutes of physical activity each day. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier will enjoy spending time outside with you. For instance, you can run around and play games in a fenced-in yard, or you can go to the dog park together. They’ll do well in an apartment, but they do bark a lot and enjoy running around.

Dandie Dinmont Terrier – A Great Family Dog

However, while this dog breed is loyal and affectionate to their family members, they’ll need time to warm up to other dogs and young children. In addition, they’re a good watchdog but will be more open to meeting new people. Luckily, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier is easy to train.

Finally, be sure to bring this dog breed to the vet at least once a year for their annual checkup. They’re prone to getting certain health issues. Otherwise, they have an average lifespan of about 12 to 15 years.
