The English Toy Spaniel is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the toy group. This breed goes by many other nicknames, such as the Ruby Spaniel, Blenheim Spaniel, Prince Charles Spaniel, King Charles Spaniel, ETs, Toy Spaniels, or Charlies. Coming from England in the 1600s, this doggo was initially bred as a flushing small game dog and a lapdog. Overall, English Toy Spaniels are playful, intelligent, and gentle.
For example, English Toy Spaniels are loyal and affectionate with their family members. Also, they’re excellent with young children and being around other dogs. However, when it comes to meeting new people, this doggo might be wary and shy at first. But, overall, they’re friendly, so early socialization and training will allow your English Toy Spaniel to be a little more outgoing with strangers.
English Toy Spaniels are small dogs. For instance, they can grow to be about nine to ten inches tall and weigh between eight and 14 pounds. They have a silky, medium double coat that requires monthly grooming. You can groom them yourself for some bonding time, or you can bring them to a professional grooming salon to get them socialized and clean. In addition, the English Toy Spaniel sheds moderately. So, you’ll want to brush their coat at least two to three times per week to keep the loose hairs under control.

Also, this dog breed has moderate energy levels. They’ll only need about 45 minutes of physical activity a day to keep them healthy and fit. So, going on long walks or playing games in the yard will be enough. Given their size and energy levels, the English Toy Spaniel will do well in a bigger house with a fenced-in yard or an apartment. They don’t bark much either, so they’re pretty quiet.
This dog breed has an average lifespan of about ten to 12 years with proper care.
