It’s unknown where or when the Golden Cocker Retriever came to be. However, this dog breed is part Cocker Spaniel and part Golden Retriever. Also known as the Cogol or the Dakota Sport Retriever, this dog breed was meant to be a family companion dog. Golden Cocker Retrievers are excellent family companions since they take some of their parent breeds’ best traits. For example, this hybrid is sweet, social, and energetic.

Golden Cocker Retrievers are loyal and affectionate to their family members. In addition, they’re excellent around young children, other dogs and enjoy meeting new people. The Golden Cocker Retriever needs early socialization and training, as with all dog breeds. However, they’re quick learners and are intelligent. They love to learn new things and please their owners. So, you can easily nip any unwanted behavior in the bud.

Golden Cocker Retriever – A Friendly Breed

The Golden Cocker Retriever is a medium-sized dog breed. For instance, they can grow to be about 20 to 24 inches tall and weigh between 30 and 45 pounds. When it comes to their appearance, they can inherit their looks from either parent breed. However, this dog breed typically has a dense medium coat. Luckily, they don’t need too much grooming. This hybrid also sheds moderately. So, you’ll want to brush their coat at least once a day to keep the loose hairs under control.

However, this crossbreed has high energy levels. They need at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day. So, they won’t do well in an apartment but prefer to have a bigger house with a fenced-in yard that they can call their own. You can bring them on various outdoor adventures such as jogging or hiking, too.

Overall, they can inherit health problems from their parents. So, bring them to the vet at least once a year for their annual checkup. This mixed breed has an average lifespan of about ten to 15 years with proper care.
