The Gollie is a great dog breed hybrid of the Golden Retriever and the Collie. Also known as the Golden Collie, there’s a lot to love about this dog breed. For example, they take some of the best traits from both parent breeds. The Gollie is intelligent, loving, and energetic. However, it’s unknown where and when this crossbreed came to be. However, they were initially bred as companion family dogs and herding dogs.
Gollies are loyal and affectionate with their family members. In addition, they’re excellent around young children, other dogs, and meeting new people. Overall, this mixed breed is relatively friendly. However, they still need early socialization and training to get used to others. Luckily, the Gollie is easy to train because they’re willing to please and intelligent.
Gollie – A Great Family Dog
This crossbreed is medium to large-sized, where males are slightly bigger than females. For example, males can grow to be about 24 to 26 inches tall and weigh between 60 and 75 pounds. On the other hand, females can grow to be about 22 to 24 inches tall and weigh between 55 and 65 pounds. So, they can take after either parent breed when it comes to their appearance. However, the Gollie will most likely have a dense, long coat that’s rough or smooth. Also, they’ll shed a lot. So, you want to brush their coat at least once a day to keep it looking nice and to keep the loose hairs under control.
In addition, Gollies have high energy levels. They don’t do well in an apartment because they need ample room to run around and stretch their legs. While they only need about 60 minutes of physical activity per day, they’ll still be up and active most of the day. Also, they can inherit health issues from their parents. So, bring them to the vet at least once a year for their annual checkup.
