The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the working group. This dog breed goes by a few other nicknames, such as the Grosser Schweizer Sennenhund, Great Swiss Cattle Dog, or the Swissy. This doggo has been around since ancient times, coming from Switzerland. Initially bred as a drafting, guarding, and herding dog, there’s a lot to love about this purebred. For example, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is faithful, dependable, and family-oriented.

If you’re looking for a family dog, then you’re in luck. The Greater Swiss Mountain Dog is loyal and affectionate with its family members. In addition, they’re excellent around young children and meeting new people. However, when it comes to meeting other dogs, they might be shy at first. They’ll prefer to be the only dog in the home. However, with early socialization and training, they’ll get along well with other dogs. Luckily, this dog breed is easy to train as they’re intelligent and eager to please their owners.

Greater Swiss Mountain Dog – A Loyal Dog

Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs are large dogs with males being bigger than females. For example, males can grow to be about 25.5 to 28.5 inches tall and weigh between 115 and 140 pounds. On the other hand, females can grow to be about 23.5 to 27 inches tall and weigh between 85 and 110 pounds. In addition, they have a short and smooth coat that requires little grooming. However, they shed and drool moderately. So, you’ll want to brush their coat at least once a week and wash their face at least two to three times per week to keep them clean.

Finally, the breed is prone to certain health issues. So, you’ll want to bring them to the vet at least once a year for their annual checkup. Also, it’ll keep them up to date with their vaccinations. With proper care, this doggo has an average lifespan of about eight to 11 years.
