The Harrier is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the hound group. This doggo goes by a couple of other nicknames, such as the Heier or the Harehound. This is an ancient breed from the United Kingdom, dating back to 1066 A.D. Initially bred as a trailing dog. The Harrier is friendly, outgoing, and people-oriented. Today, they’re a great family companion dog.

If you’re looking for the ultimate friendly dog, then the Harrier is a good option for you and your family. For example, they’re loyal and affectionate with their family members. Also, they’re excellent with young children, other dogs, and meeting new people. They’re a good watchdog and will certainly alert you if something or someone is coming, but they’ll be friendly to the new person. As with all dogs, the Harrier still needs early socialization and training. Luckily, this purebred is easy to train because they’re eager to please their owner.

Harrier – A Loyal Family Member

Harrier dogs are medium-sized. For instance, they can grow about 19 to 12 inches tall and weigh between 45 and 60 pounds. Also, they have a short double coat that requires little grooming. You can bring them to a professional grooming salon once in a while, but it’s not needed. For instance, they only need a bath once in a while or if they get dirty or smelly. However, you can bathe them at your house for some bonding time. On the other hand, the Harrier does shed a moderate amount. So, you’ll want to brush their coat at least once a week to keep the shedding under control.

In addition, Harriers have high energy levels. They need at least 90 minutes of physical activity per day. So, they won’t do well in an apartment and need a bigger house with a fenced-in yard. You can also bring them to the dog park. This dog breed has an average lifespan of about 12 to 15 years with proper care.
