The Havapoo is a crossbreed that’s part Havanese and part Poodle. It goes by a few other nicknames, such as the Poovanese, Island Mini Doodle, Havanoodle, Havadoodle, or the Havaesepoo. The Havapoo comes from the United States, dating around the 2000s. Initially bred as a companion dog, this mixed breed is still a great family pet today. For example, the Havapoo is happy, intelligent, and friendly, taking some of the best traits from both parent breeds.
There’s a lot to love about this dog breed. For instance, the Havapoo is loyal and affectionate with its family members. Also, they’re excellent around young children, other dogs, and meeting new people. On the other hand, this hybrid can be shy and sensitive if it’s not given proper socialization from a young age. So, you’ll want to provide them with early socialization and training, even though they’re relatively friendly to all. Havapoos aren’t aggressive and are a good watchdog but will only bark to alert you if something feels off.
Havapoo – A Loyal Dog
Havapoos are small dogs. For instance, they can grow to be about eight to 15 inches tall and weigh between 15 and 45 pounds. This dog breed will look like either parent breed, depending on which one they take after the most. However, this crossbreed typically has a dense, curly coat. Luckily, they’re hypoallergenic, thanks to the Poodle parent. So, you won’t need to worry about shedding. However, they’ll still need regular brushing and grooming to keep their coat looking clean and healthy.
Also, this mixed breed has moderate energy levels but requires a good amount of physical activity. For example, they need at least 120 minutes per day to get their energy out and keep them healthy and fit. They’ll do okay in an apartment if they get their exercise. Otherwise, this doggo will be happy in a bigger house with a fenced-in yard.
