The Lagotto Romagnolo is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the sporting group. This doggo goes by a couple of other nicknames, such as the Romagna Water Dog or the Lagotto Romagnoli. This dog is an ancient breed, originally bred in Italy. This purebred was bred for searching out truffles and water retrieving. Today, this dog breed is affectionate, keen, and undemanding.
For example, the Lagotto Romagnolo is loyal and affectionate with its family members. Also, they’re great around other dogs and meeting new people. They’re good with young children, too. However, they’ll need some time to warm up to younger kids. Lagotto Romagnolo needs early socialization and training. Luckily, they’re easy to train. In addition, this dog breed doesn’t bark too much. They’re relatively quiet and will only bark to alert you of something. For example, they’re a good watchdog. So, if a stranger approaches, they’ll let you know about it.
The Lagotto Romagnolo – A Loyal Dog
Lagotto Romagnolo dogs are medium-sized, with males being slightly bigger than females. For example, males can grow to be about 17 to 19 inches tall and weigh between 28.5 to 35 pounds. On the other hand, females can grow to be about 16 to 18 inches tall and weigh between 24 to 31 pounds. In addition, this dog breed has a curly, medium double coat. It requires a little grooming, but not much. So, you can bring them to a professional grooming salon once a month or once every other month.
On the other hand, you can bathe them as needed at home for some bonding time. Also, the Lagotto Romagnolo doesn’t shed much, so you’ll only need to brush their coat once in a while. Or, you can do so weekly to keep it looking nice.
Also, this dog breed has high energy levels. So they’ll need a bigger house with a fenced-in yard rather than an apartment. This doggo has an average lifespan of about 15 to 17 years with proper care.
