The Maltese is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the toy group. This doggo goes by many other nicknames, such as the Melitae Dog, Ye Ancient Dogge of Malta, Roman Ladies Dog, The Comforter, Spaniel Gentle, Bichon, Maltese Lion Dog, or The Maltese Terrier. Initially bred as a comforter and companion dog, this doggo comes from Malta and has been around since ancient times. Today, they’re still a great family companion dog. For example, the Maltese are playful, charming, and gentle.
In addition, the Maltese is loyal and affectionate with its family members. Also, they’re good with young children, other dogs, and meeting new people. However, they’ll need time to warm up to them. They prefer to be the only ones around their humans. So, if you’re looking for a lapdog, then you’ve come to the right place. Regardless, the Maltese still need early socialization and training. They’re an excellent watchdog and can be tricky to train. So, you can hire a professional dog trainer to help you if needed.
Maltese – A Small Dog
Maltese dogs are small. For instance, they can grow to be about seven to nine inches tall and weigh between four and seven pounds. In addition, they have a long, silky coat that requires regular grooming. You’ll want to groom them yourself at home once every couple of weeks. However, you can also bring them to a professional grooming salon once a month. Luckily, this doggo doesn’t shed much, but you’ll still want to brush their coat at least once a week to keep it looking nice.
Also, this doggo is active and likes to play. They need at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day to stay healthy and fit. They’ll do well living in a bigger house with a fenced-in yard. However, as long as they get the exercise they need, this purebred can live comfortably in an apartment.
