The Papillion is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the toy group. In addition, this doggo goes by a couple of other nicknames, such as the Dwarf Spaniel, Continental Toy Spaniel, A Oreilles Droites, and the Epagneul Nain Continental. First being developed in 1500, this dog breed comes from France. Initially bred as a lap dog, the Papillion is still a great family companion dog today. For example, they’re friendly, alert, and happy.

There’s a lot to love about this dog breed. For example, Papillions are loyal and affectionate with their family members. Also, they’re excellent around young children and meeting new people. However, they’re friendly with other dogs but might need some time to get used to their company. Early socialization and training will do the trick. Luckily, this doggo is easy to train since they’re eager to please their owners. Also, to help socialize them with other dogs, you can bring them to the dog park or doggy daycare if you’re going to be out of the house for most of the day.

Papillions are small dogs. For example, they can grow to be about eight to 11 inches tall and weigh between five and ten pounds. Also, they have a medium silky coat that requires some grooming. You can bring them to a professional grooming salon bi-monthly for a good cleaning and bath. On the other hand, you can brush their coat daily to keep it looking nice and keep tangles away. In addition, the Papillion does shed a moderate amount, so brushing them will also help keep the loose hairs under control.

Finally, this dog breed has moderate energy levels. As long as they get the exercise they need each day, this doggo can live comfortably in an apartment or a bigger house with a fenced-in yard. This pup has an average lifespan of about 14 to 16 years with proper care.
