The Plott Hound is a purebred dog breed that’s part of the hound group. This doggo goes by a couple of other nicknames, such as the Plott Cur or the Plott. Coming from North Carolina in the United States, this dog was bred to be a large game hunter in the 1750s. Plott Hounds are closely related to the Coonhound family. In addition, this dog breed makes for a great family companion dog today. For example, they’re intelligent, devoted, and active.

In addition, the Plott Hound is loyal and affectionate with its family members. Also, great around young children and other dogs. However, when it comes it meeting new people, they might be shy at first. This dog is relatively friendly overall, but they’re protective of their family and territory. So, they’ll be a great watchdog. This doggo needs early socialization and training. Luckily, they’re easy to train since they’re willing to please their owner. However, this pup does have a stubborn side to them. So, you can use treats as positive reinforcement, and they’ll jump right back into the training.

Plott Hound – An Active Breed

Plott Hounds are medium-sized dogs, with males being slightly bigger than females. For example, males can grow to be about 23 to 28 inches tall and weigh between 51 to 60 pounds. On the other hand, females can grow to be about 20 to 23 inches tall and weigh between 40 to 55 pounds. In addition, they have a short and smooth coat that requires regular grooming. Also, they shed a moderate amount. So, to keep the shedding under control, you can brush their coat at least once a week.

Finally, they’re an active breed that needs at least 45 minutes of physical activity per day. They’re also vocal so that they won’t do well living in an apartment. You’ll want to provide your Plott Hound with a bigger house with a fenced-in yard.
