The Sheepadoodle is a mix between the Old English Sheepdog and the Poodle. When purchasing one, you should be careful! Poodle mixes have reached designer breed status. That means that unethical and backyard breeders will create them without health testing the parents for a quick profit. It’s important not to support businesses like this and enable them to continue to produce unhappy, unhealthy puppies.
If you do find a good one, the Sheepadoodle is a beautiful dog. They have long hair that can be curly and dense if they take after the Poodle, which most people want because then they’ll shed less. People often get Poodle mixes because it’s easier on their allergies, though this isn’t always the case if they take after the other breed more! They could come in a variety of colors, though many are black and white. They get up to 85 lb, so prepare to have a large dog!
Sheepadoodle – A Superb Family Dog
In terms of personality, Sheepadoodles are great with all members of the family. They love children though can be very hyperactive and excited, so you should take care to monitor interactions. They also tend to be good-natured with cats and other dogs. Help them live up to their full potential by providing plenty of socialization opportunities.
The one thing to really bear in mind with the Sheepadoodle is that they’re very high-energy. They need an outlet for all that. Having a fenced-in backyard can really help, as it gives them space to run around, but they need walks every day. They’re also highly intelligent and although this is great in that they learn fast, they need mental enrichment too. Lickmats, puzzle toys, and trick training all help immensely with this and will tire them out. A wonderful and friendly dog breed.
