The SSmall Munstlander Pointer is actually not as small as the name might suggest! They’re more of a medium-sized dog. They have a brown and white coat with floppy ears and look a lot like Spaniels — and are often mistaken for them!
The great thing about them is that they’re a healthy breed with no major genetic diseases. This can be very reassuring though, if you’re purchasing from a breeder, you should still make sure the parents are health-tested. Still, when many breeds have plenty of problems that can crop up, this is a huge win.
The Small Munstlander Pointer makes an amazing family companion. They’re dedicated to their people and will even be gentle with the kids in the family. You shouldn’t take advantage of their good nature and let your kids run all over them though, as this can be dangerous. Any dog will snap if pushed far enough so take the time to teach your kids as well as your dog! These dogs are, however, very patient.
The Small Munstlander Pointer – A Very Smart Dog
They’re intelligent and high-energy which will come with its advantages and disadvantages. For one thing, they’re very easy to train and will be eager to please you. This is great when it comes to the puppy stage. Come equipped with high-value treats and plenty of positive reinforcement and you’ll have the best dog around.
They do, however, need a lot of stimulation — both physical and mental. You’ll have to give them plenty of outlets for their energy. A fenced-in backyard and long walks are ideal, but they also need mental stimulation. You can achieve this through trick training, puzzle toys, lick mats, and more. A dog who doesn’t get their needs met will become destructive. A wonderful dog breed you will quickly love.
