The Toy Fox Terrier is a tiny dog! They don’t tend to weigh any more than eight pounds, making them a true toy breed. They have a short, smooth, tricolor coat with pricked ears. Although they don’t seem to have too much fur, they do actually shed quite a bit. This is a mistake a lot of people make with short-haired dogs, but short-haired dogs often shed more than long-haired ones! Remember this if allergies are a factor for you in deciding on a breed of dog.
These dogs are intelligent and so easy to train that people often use them as service dogs. They can have a little bit of a stubborn streak, but it’s usually easy to get past with lots of patient training and positive reinforcement. An important part of training them is figuring out what they love most, whether it’s a certain high-value treat or training, and using this as a reward.
Toy Fox Terrier – A Small And Friendly Dog Breed
They love their family members and tend to be good with other dogs and small children. Children, however, should always be taught how to respect the dog so they don’t push boundaries too far, as this could result in the dog snapping. That’s the last thing you want, and every dog has their limits!
The Toy Fox Terrier may be a little wary of strangers. That means you need to take care with their socialization and ensure they get a lot of it. Let them meet strangers at their own pace and have those strangers provide treats and pets (if the dog is comfortable). This will reassure them that strangers are actually good and give them lots to look forward to when meeting more of them.
You will quickly learn to love this wonderful dog breed.
