The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is undoubtedly a beautiful dog. They’re medium to large dogs with a double coat that feels — you guessed it — wiry! That means their coat does need some grooming maintenance, so be prepared to take care of them. They come in a few different colors, such as brown and grey.
They love people. Whether it’s their adult family members, the kids, or new people, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is down to meet them all. Try not to take advantage of their good nature though. Many people get excited that their dog naturally has a good nature and think the kids can just climb all over him! If you don’t set boundaries and set your dog up for success, any dog can snap with impatience. Make sure you provide plenty of training and socialization to truly help your dog be the best they can be, and make them comfortable with you.
Wirehaired Pointing Griffon – A High Energy Dog
Another thing to bear in mind is this dog’s high energy needs. They can live in an apartment, but may not be as happy — especially if you don’t make the effort to get outside with them a lot. These dogs need good long walks and would love to join you on your outdoor adventures. As they’re intelligent, you should also be prepared to provide the necessary mental stimulation. This often tires a dog out more than physical! Giving them plenty to do will reduce the chances of your dog being noisy or destructive.
If you’re going to leave them home all day, it’s a good idea to find something for them to do. Having a dog walker visit halfway through the day or taking them to doggy daycare is always a good call. A brilliant breed that you will welcome into the family.
