The Yakutian Laika is an undeniably beautiful dog. They look a little like Siberian Huskies, but are far rarer. They’re fairly large dogs that are usually the color white but may have various brown, black, and grey markings. Much like their cousin, the Husky, they have a coat that sheds quite a bit. If you suffer from allergies, don’t be drawn in by the beauty of this dog! They’re likely to aggravate them.
These dogs truly love their people. They’ll bond well to their owners, though they can have a bit of a stubborn streak when it comes to training. Although stubborn streaks are the source of much frustration in many people, it’s important to stay patient. Equip yourself with high-value treats and coax them through it when they seem to be responsive. You’ll have a dog who listens to you in no time.
Yakutian Laika – A Loyal And Friendly Dog
These dogs may be wary of strangers, particularly those coming through the home. Make sure you introduce your Yakutian Laika to lots of new people when they’re a puppy and you’ll find that this helps a lot. Make sure all experiences with strangers are positive, and you can even have strangers toss treats to the ground in front of your dog.
They are highly intelligent and energetic, so be prepared to provide everything they need. This doesn’t just mean exercise — though that’s important too — but mental stimulation. They love to learn tricks and having a job to do, and puzzle mats and lick mats can also really help your dog feel like they have a job to do. If you don’t meet your dog’s needs, you may find that they become bored and destructive. That’s the last thing anyone wants!
Once you do get to know the breed you will quickly fall in love with them.
