However, there are many different kinds of beans, and some of them are healthier than others. So depending on the kind of bean you’re talking about, your dog may or may not be able to eat. Beans are also a great source of protein, potassium, iron, magnesium, and antioxidants. Together, these minerals help support muscle growth and bone growth. They also create red blood cells, lower cholesterol, fight cancer, and minimize arthritis risk.

Too many beans can have negative effects, though. For instance, if your pooch consumes too many beans, then you may notice them having excessive gas, loose stool, or abdominal pain.

How to feed beans to your dog

No matter which beans you’re feeding your dog, always wash them thoroughly first. Then, mash them, so they’re easier for your dog to chew and swallow. You don’t need to do that for string beans, but mashing the beans will help digestion. After that, you can feed your pooch beans as a quick, healthy snack for a treat, or you can add them as a food topper to their commercial dog food.
