The Canaan Dog is part of the herding group, according to the American Kennel Club. They were bred to herd livestock. After World War II, however, the Canaan Dog soon became messengers, service dogs, and guide dogs for the blind. This purebred is alert, vigilant, and confident. They make a wonderful companion dog. Look at the Canaan Dog photos below to see how cute this pooch is.

Canaan Dogs are medium in size, weighing no more than 45 to 55 pounds. They have a short and smooth double coat that comes in many different colors and marking. While grooming this pooch is easy, Canaan Dogs do shed quite a bit. So, you’ll want to make sure you brush their coat once or twice per week to keep the loose hair under control.

This doggo is very vocal. They make excellent watchdogs, but they will bark at anything and everything. So, it’ll sometimes be hard to tell when they’re alerting you or whether they just hear themselves talk. But, don’t worry, this pooch is intelligent, and training is easy. Excessive barking can be nipped in the bud with proper training.

Overall, the Canaan Dog will make an excellent addition to any household. They are friendly, affectionate with their family members, good with kids, and good with other dogs.
