Deutscher Wachtelhund Photos

If you want to see some Deutscher Wachtelhund photos, we have some great ones here.
As you may be able to tell from the name, the Deutscher Wachtelhund originates from Germany. It translates to “German Quail Dog”. They usually come in some variation of brown (or brown and white), and resemble spaniels with their floppy ears. They’re a medium-sized dog, so you get the best of both worlds. They’re also very muscular.
These dogs are intelligent, lively, and will be truly devoted to their owners and affectionate. As they’re hunting dogs, however, they may not be suited for families with small animals. They can live with cats if introduced carefully and never left unsupervised, but smaller animals are a huge risk. Don’t leave them with hamsters or small rabbits, as it’s likely their prey drive will kick in.
If you don’t have small animals, however, they may be the dog for you! They’re easy to train and great with kids. You should consider, however, that they’re very determined and can get somewhat locked on to scents. That means you’ll have to teach them “leave it” and practice their recall. Start this at an early age and don’t give up — it can take months to become reliable.
A Loyal Dog
Once everything clicks, you’ll have a very loyal and devoted dog that will love you for life. They have relatively high exercise needs, so make sure they’re getting all the stimulation they require.
