If you’ve never seen one, here are some adorable Dorgi photos.

If you’ve never heard of a Dorgi, that’s understandable. This isn’t a purebred dog at all, but a mix between two dogs — the Dachshund and the Corgi.

There’s nothing wrong with getting a mixed breed dog and, in fact, there can be many benefits to having one. Seeking out a mixed breed does come with some important considerations, however. Backyard breeders love to breed mixed dogs because they don’t require AKC papers. This makes it easier to pose as a legitimate breeder. The parents often aren’t health-tested, so you could end up with some expensive veterinary bills down the line. They may also have some breeds thrown in there you weren’t aware of.

If you can find a legitimate Dorgi, however, they’re great dogs. They’ll be small to medium-sized pups with long backs and short legs. Due to the Corgi’s shedding, you may find that they aren’t great for allergies and will leave a ton of hair around your house!

A Smart Dog

They’ll be very intelligent little pups but may have some herding instincts, and may be brave beyond belief. The Dachshund side of them will leave them charging headfirst into situations without considering them properly. Teaching your dog a good recall command can combat this. Recall, however, can take many months to become reliable, so be patient and consistent.

Overall, these little dogs will make great, affectionate companions. Like any dog, they just need early training and socialization to help them live up to their full potential.

To truly understand this breed you can look at some of these photos of the dog from a puppy right through to a senior dog. Click on any of the links and you will discover some of the very best Instagram accounts to follow. As you will see from the photos this is a breed you will quickly fall in love with.
