If you’ve never heard of one, here are some Drever photos so you can get a good picture of the breed.
Although these dogs aren’t too common in the US, they are very popular in Sweden. Since it’s a hound, it has floppy ears and a dropped tail. It can be any color, and usually has a very short coat. The most distinctive thing about this dog, though, is the long back paired with the short legs. In that sense, it can look like a Dachshund or a Corgi!
This makes an alert little watchdog, so prepare for barking if it senses anything amiss at your house. If you don’t want to listen to the song of the hound often, this may not be the dog for you! However, if you feel safer with a dog that alerts you to strangers, this dog is perfect for you.
A Friendly Dog
They’re sweet dogs, but they’re used to hunt game of any size. That means they have a lot of stamina despite their short legs and may possess a bit of a prey drive. Although they get along well with other dogs, you should be careful with cats. Keep introductions slow and never leave them alone together unsupervised. Smaller animals like rabbits and rodents are even riskier, and may not be the best choice of companion for your dog.
Despite being small with short legs, their energy needs are not insignificant, so prepare yourself for long walks!
