Find out more about this lovable retriever with our collection of Flat Coated Retriever photos!
The Flat-Coated Retriever hails back to Victorian England. They were both hunting and game keeping assistants. At one point, they were Great Britain’s most popular retriever breed. While the Golden Retriever and Labrador have taken their place, Flat-Coated Retrievers remain popular among outdoorsy families.
Flat-Coated Retrievers have medium-length, smooth coats in either liver or black. They have distinctive feathering on their legs and tail. They shed regularly twice a year. Brushing them thoroughly once a week will help cut down on shed hair. Use a metal dog comb, slicker brush, and bristle brush. Check for mats in their fur regularly. Since they have floppy ears, you should check inside regularly and clean them when needed.
An Energetic Dog
This is a high-energy sporting breed. Flat-Coated Retrievers thrive on ample daily exercise and accomplishing tasks. Your Flat-Coated Retriever will love daily walks and hikes and may do well with organized canine sports.
Flat-Coated Retrievers are affectionate towards everyone. They’re great with kids of all ages, new human friends, and other dogs. As loyal companions, they will always be eager to please you in training.
