If you’re looking for a new terrier friend, check out our gallery of Fox Terrier photos to learn more about this breed!
From the mid-19th century, these little dogs were used in foxhunting. This was a traditional practice which is now banned in Great Britain. The fox terrier’s job was to annoy the fox so it ran out of its hole. The fox terrier still retains the instinct to dig.
Though there is a wire-haired fox terrier, this gallery focuses on the smooth fox terrier. These dogs have smooth, short hair and shed a bit. Their coloring is usually some combination of white, tan, and black. A weekly brush-through will help them look their best. Dental health with small breeds is very important. Make sure you brush their teeth regularly.
A High Energy Dog
Fox terriers are playful, high-energy dogs. They enjoy long walks, playtime, fetching, and devoted exercise in a fenced-off yard. Don’t let a fox terrier run off-leash. It will probably dash off after any animals it perceives as prey.
While a fox terrier will be affectionate towards their family, the breed does best with older kids or kids used to dogs. Even though they’re wary around strangers, they’re not usually aggressive towards humans. Without proper socialization, a fox terrier may develop jealousy towards other dogs, cats, and other small pets. This makes socialization a very important part of their training.
