Want to see some Gollie photos to get an idea of what they look like? We’ve got you covered.
Wondering what kind of breed a Gollie is and why you’ve never heard of them? Gollies aren’t actually a purebred dog, but a mix between a Golden Retriever and a Collie. You might find one of these in shelters or find a breeder who crosses dogs. If you go the latter route, just make sure you do your research. It’s important even with crossbred dogs to ensure the parents were health and DNA-tested, or you may end up with problems down the line. That’s the last thing you want!
If you do find a legitimate Gollie, they are awesome dogs. They’ll be around medium-size and may inherit either breed’s coat though luckily, they are quite similar. They can be heavy shedders, so may not be the best choice for those suffering from allergies.
An Energetic Dog
The Golden Retriever and Collie both have enormous amounts of energy, so be prepared to wear your pup out every day! Due to their high intelligence, mental stimulation is as important as physical, so it’s important to bear that in mind. They’re highly intelligent but also highly trainable.
Because there’s Collie in there, they may have a tendency to herd. Keep an eye on them around small children and animals, as they can be rough if they go into ‘herding mode’. Fortunately, they shouldn’t have much of a prey drive, which helps.
