A large part of this breeds longevity will be feeding them a healthy beagle diet. Giving your beagle healthy and complete foods may be challenging or stressful. However, getting your beagle in the habit of eating healthy sets them on the path of lifelong wellness.

What To Feed Your Beagle

You have the option to buy a commercially available dog food, or to make their food yourself from readily available meat and sources of fiber. Whatever method you choose, these tips should help you give your beagle the best diet possible.

1. Give Them Whole Meat Or Meal

Whether you make their food yourself or buy a commercially produced food, your beagle will thrive on either whole meat or meal. When a pet food lists “meal” after any meat in its ingredients, it means the moisture has been removed, which means a higher protein content. A good amount of protein, balanced with fat, is an important part of any healthy beagle diet.

2. Look For A Lower Fat Content

Though fat is an important component of any dog’s diet, you will want to search for a food with a lower fat content for your beagle. Beagles are a breed prone to obesity, which could lead to other health problems or make existing issues worse. Also make sure the fat content comes from an easily digestible animal source, like salmon oil or chicken fat.

3. Avoid Fillers And Additives

Any manufactured food you buy for your beagle should not contain carbohydrate fillers or artificial preservatives, colors, or flavors. These ingredients may result in skin problems, coat problems, and low energy levels.

4. Do Not Free Feed

You will want to feed your beagle two to three meals a day depending on how old they are. Only feed them what they can eat in 15-20 minutes, saving the rest. Leaving their bowl filled with food throughout the day may lead to overeating.

5. Consider A Limited-Ingredient Recipe

Beagles are a breed prone to food allergies. If this is the case with your dog, you may want to search for a balanced diet with a few crucial ingredients. You can also cook food for them yourself, which is a great way to ensure you know what they’re eating.
