The habits we teach and allow our dogs to learn can mean the difference between a long healthy life and illness. This of course includes what we allow our Labs to eat.
5 Tips For A Healthy Labrador Diet
Sometimes small things can make a big difference. To help you decide what is best for your dog, read our tips for the perfect Labrador diet.
1. Read The Label
It is very important to know what is in your dog’s daily food. Some dog food companies use a lot of fillers. It is best to find a dog food with real meat, like chicken, listed as the first ingredient followed by other real ingredients.
2. Introduce Fresh Foods
Dog’s, like us, get all their vitamins and minerals from their food. By introducing fresh vegetables and meat into your dog’s diet, you supply them with more of the good stuff they need to stay healthy. Just make sure the foods you introduce are dog-safe and given in the correct proportions.
3. Feed A Variety Of Ingredients
Would you like to eat the same thing every day? I bet the answer is no… Our dogs feel the same. By introducing variety you can make sure your dog gets all the nutrients it needs as well as prevent boredom with a certain kind of food.
4. Add Oils
Oils like fish, chia seed, or flaxseed oil are high in Omega 3 and excellent for keeping your dogs coat shiny.
5. Know The Limits
Make sure not to overfeed! Labradors are prone to weight gain which can lead to other health problems.

I’m Rita and I’m crazy about animals. I’ve been lucky enough to have had all sorts of pets throughout my life. This, along with my years of experience working as a professional dog trainer, has given me the opportunity to learn a lot about their care and behavior. I have several animal-related qualifications including dog training, equine science, and nature guiding. I live in sunny South Africa, where you can find me out walking my dog or caring for my rabbits when I’m not working.
