You might mistake this dog breed for a long-haired German Shepherd, but the Hovawart is its breed, and they’re a purebred pup. These large dogs stand between 23 and 28 inches tall and weigh between 65 to 90 pounds. They have medium double coats that can come in black or blonde and might have gold markings. To see how beautiful this dog breed is, take a look at the Hovawart photos shown below.
Unfortunately, this pooch won’t be a good fit for allergy sufferers. They are not considered hypoallergenic dogs, even though they only shed once or twice per year. Still, loose hairs will get all over your house if you don’t give them a weekly brushing. Otherwise, when it comes to grooming their coat, it’s fairly easy since you don’t need to bathe them often.
A Smart Dog
Hovawarts are intelligent, faithful, and alert. They’re affectionate with their family members, great with young children, and great with other dogs. In addition, they’ll welcome meeting strangers and new people. However, they are vigilant and protective of those they love. So, they’ll make an excellent watchdog for the territory as well. However, they are not aggressive, so that they won’t make good guard dogs.
This purebred is easy to train since they’re eager to please their owner. Also, they’re playful, have moderate exercise needs, and enjoy plenty of mental stimulation. Given their size, they’d rather have a fenced-in yard with a bigger home and won’t do well in an apartment. Overall, there’s a lot to love about this doggo, and any family will be lucky to have a Hovawart.
