If you want to see some Icelandic Sheepdog photos, we’ve got you covered.

If you don’t know what the Icelandic Sheepdog looks like, they’re majestic! It’s Iceland’s only native dog breed, and comes in many coat colors, usually with white. They have pricked ears and tend to stand at around 18″ tall, making them a medium-sized dog. They’re recognizable by their tail, which stands high and so curled it touches their back most of the time.

Built to withstand the harsh Icelandic climate, these dogs are tough and have a lot of energy. They have a high herding instinct, which you should bear in mind when introducing them to children. They can be a little rough! However, they don’t tend to have a prey or hunting drive at all. That makes them ideal for getting along with smaller pets because although they guard livestock, they don’t tend to go after small critters.

A Friendly Dog

They’re very friendly and playful. Some livestock guardians tend to be wary of strangers, but the Icelandic Sheepdog tends to be fine with them. Of course, this also depends on how well the dog’s training and socialization goes. Make sure you start as a puppy, teaching them basic manners and introducing them to lots of new people, because even the best breeds can struggle when not given the proper upbringing.

Overall though, the Icelandic Sheepdog is a great pet to have and very intelligent. They’ll do great with your family and other pets.

To truly understand this breed you can look at some of these photos of the dog from a puppy right through to a senior dog.
